Polyps and Fibroids
If the cause of bleeding turns out to be a problem with the lining of the uterus or polyps within the uterus, they can be destroyed or removed by curettage, by freezing or with cautery.
Fibroids tend to shrink and cause fewer problems after menopause, but if they are very troublesome in perimenopause surgery may be the only solution. The operation to remove fibroids is called a myomectomy and is usually done through an abdominal incision along the bikini line. If the fibroids are not too big they can be removed using only a laparoscope, or occasionally a hysteroscope.
Cervical Bleeding
Bleeding from the cervix is treated after evaluation by colposcopy and biopsy using laser
electrocautery, freezing or excising the abnormal tissue.
When the cause of abnormal bleeding has been diagnosed and serious disease excluded, there are many complementary treatments and self-help alternatives like natural hormone replacement to help deal with different bleeding patterns.
Natural hormone replacement therapy is becoming ever more popular as women are taking their health into their own hands and becoming more aware of the impact of drugs on our bodies.
